Cephable Secures $4.6 Million in Seed Funding
Uses AI to Bridge the Gap Between Accessibility and Everyday Tech
Boston, MA – October 31, 2024, Cephable– an innovative AI platform reshaping the way we interact with technology by leading with accessibility, today announced it has raised $4.6 million in a split seed round co-led by Triple Impact Capital, Founder Collective, and Hyperplane, with additional participation from Difference Partners, Voicify, and Angel Investors Scott Belsky, Bret Bowerman, and Jason Fields.
This funding marks a critical step forward in Cephable’s mission to redefine how individuals interact with technology. The AI software platform offers new input modalities such as facial expressions, gestures, adaptive voice commands, and multi-device input to control digital tech-expanding product use cases that are accessible from the start to everyone in their digital interactions.
“We are humbled by the incredible support from our investors who share our commitment to creating a more inclusive digital world. By leading with the most accessible experience and controls, we’re enabling access and productivity to not only our community of people with disabilities- but broadly everyone,” said Alex Dunn, CEO and Founder of Cephable. “This investment will enable us to accelerate the growth of Cephable’s platform, ensuring more inclusive access to the tools they need to engage with technology on their own terms—whether for gaming, education, or professional use.”
Justin Smithline, General Partner at Triple Impact Capital, added, “Alex represents exactly the type of founder that we love to back. He’s not only technically brilliant, but also extremely mission-driven with the ambition to build a transformative company that will evolve computing interfaces in new and exciting ways.”
Cephable’s seed round allows the company to scale its platform and expand partnerships in industries ranging from corporate technology infrastructure to product integration.
“When I first saw the demo for what would become Cephable, I was intrigued by the idea that you could play a fully-featured video game by making facial expressions,” said Eric Paley, General Partner at Founder Collective. “Now, I find myself energized by Alex’s vision for a platform that provides people, regardless of physical abilities, equal access to the digital economy and entertainment, to all the tools they need to thrive, whether at work or play.”
Cephable’s on-device AI leverages Neural Processing Units (NPUs) in modern devices, enabling the platform to process inputs directly on the user’s device. This approach enhances both performance and privacy by minimizing data sent to external servers, ensuring that adaptive controls are faster and more secure. This cutting-edge use of on-device AI in platforms allows for smoother user experiences, especially in tasks like gaming, document creation, and coding.
“It’s been over 60 years since the design of the computer mouse, and today Cephable is reimagining the way we interact with the digital world,” said Samara Gordon, General Partner at Hyperplane Venture Capital. “Cephable’s explosive growth speaks to a pressing need to better serve 1.3 billion people with disabilities. We are thrilled to support Alex and the team as they continue to innovate in this space.”
Cephable has already made significant strides within the industry. Its partnerships with major organizations such as Microsoft, Qualcomm, HP, Lenovo, Intel, Accenture, and others and participation in events like Microsoft Build, SXSW, CES, and HP Imagine AI, have helped showcase the power of AI to create more engaging and accessible digital experiences.
Cephable plans to accelerate product development, expand strategic partnerships, and increase global user adoption of its platform. The company’s software is available across multiple platforms including Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android and can be integrated with Cephable’s SDKs into games, web apps, mobile apps, and more. This comprehensive approach allows users to engage with digital content seamlessly, whether on desktop, laptop, mobile devices, or anywhere else.
